Jennifer Bush

My name is Jennifer Bush, and I am a breast cancer survivor. I live in Navarre, Florida with my husband, my son, two cats and two dogs. I have participated in cancer 5k races and other events, but I never thought I would be one of the ones to benefit from the funds and recognition being raised. I received my diagnosis in June 2021, just three weeks after my son’s high school graduation.

As many others do, I have had personal experiences with cancer after losing several family and friends. These were difficult times, but I had the support of loved ones. When I received my diagnosis, I thought of all those same people, but this was different. I found myself holding parts of my story back so I would not overburden anyone. I didn’t have another survivor to talk to and that’s when I discovered the American Cancer Society and the Voices of Hope.

Once I had completed all my treatment and I transitioned from “survivor” to “thriver” I attended a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event and I ran into a friend. She introduced me to Voices of Hope and asked if I would like to be considered. I jumped on the opportunity to put myself in a situation to be the person I so desperately needed during the early days of my journey.

I am living proof that early detection saves lives, and I have all my breast cancer sisters that came before me to thank. It is in their honor that I volunteer today to help ease the burden of others whose lives have been affected by this horrible disease.
