Meet Our Voices

Amy Fuller

My name is Amy Fuller and I GET TO be a Voice of Hope.  Since 1998, I have volunteered as a Relay For Life team participant, team captain and event lead in Butler County.  I’ve also been a lead for PA RFL state advisory teams and a volunteer for the following:  Daffodil Days, Road to Recovery, Men Wear Pink, and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.  All of that was before I heard those words, “You have cancer.” And that hasn’t stopped me from volunteering yet!
Because of my time as a volunteer, I know that mammograms can save lives.  In January of 2021, I had my mammogram and went from being “just a volunteer” to being a “survivor”.  I was diagnosed with two kinds of breast cancer at once – DCIS ER+ and Triple Negative. After six months of chemotherapy, radiation, and a lumpectomy, I GET TO say I have NED (no evidence of disease).

I know my years of volunteering made me a smarter, better equipped patient because I knew where to turn for help.  I’ve learned that I can do hard things and challenge myself to do things that I never would have done before.  After I was diagnosed, I started weight lifting and even dragon boat racing!  I joined Pittsburgh Hearts of Steel, a breast cancer survivor paddle team.  It’s my first EVER team sport.  One thing that I learned during treatment is that I GET TO choose each day how I live my life.  And I choose “GET TO” over “have to” every chance I get.

I married my husband, Jeff, in 1991 and we live in Economy Borough, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.  Our son, Jordan, lives in Erie and our daughter, Mackenzie, lives in Boston.  I work part time at Cranberry Public Library in Butler County.
